Starting Kindergarten

Going to a year-round Montessori preschool/daycare means that Niranjana is always in school. Lucky girl! Really, it looks like fun. They do group time at 9 a.m., have a routine of "works" and "P.E. (running laps outside, yoga stretches, jumping jacks, tag) until 3 p.m., story time, show-and-tell, and "free play" until I show up. Yes, there are even arts and crafts involved.

The summer "academics" are a little lighter than they will be from September through May, but move-up day from pre-K into Kindergarten was June 14. It's a big deal. So at our house, Niranjana now is a kindergartner and we're trying to treat her that way.

One of the "cool" things about being a kindergartner is the daily privilege of copying a sentence that the teacher wrote on the board. Writing is one of the areas Niranjana needs to work on (yes, I know, she's only in kindergarten, but this is a Montessori school), so we are glad to see she is excited by this work.

Her first sentence came home last night. I looks like a new kindergartner wrote it, but I can read it so it's all good!

Isn't it cool!

Leif takes his weather report VERY seriously. It's major kindergarten business!
