Throughout my life, my last name has been misspelled. All Perdues have come to expect it. The most common misspelling is "Purdue" (as in the university in Indiana). The worst I've experienced is "Purdew."
Anyone who spells my last name correctly on the first try typically is from the East Coast and is used to Perdue Chicken and its owner, Frank Perdue - who once admitted to seeking help from the Mafia.
Melissa, too, has enjoyed many variations on "O'Neil" including O'Neal and O'Neill.
Thus, my dear Niranjana will endure a lifetime of having one or more of her names misspelled. While we Perdues (Ed, Mona, Joe and Andy) have not had issues with our first name, Niranjana is in double jeopardy of spelling issues.
Tonight was the first semi-permanent evidence of that. Niranjana's YMCA soccer team held its season-end banquet tonight, and all the children received trophies. Niranjana's was spelled: "Niranajana Perdue." Kudos on getting the last name right, but the first has an extra "a" in it.
That's OK because even her daddy still has to think twice while spelling it.

Believe it or not, I had the first set of difficulties with my first name recently, which I just found so odd. I got mail TWICE here at work for Apryl. Handwritten.
